Performance draws inspiration from Walter Salles movie
Behind the Sun was the film that brought Walter Salles international acclaim as a director capable of dealing with universal themes. Based on the novel by Albanian author Ismail Kadaré, he chose the arid Brasilian Sertão as a catalyst to strip man of his trappings and reveal the unadulterated ego, desire and revenge motivating his every move. On the silver screen, these emotions were expertly invoked in lyrical long shots.
Now, the film will be represented through the medium of dance. Brasilian choreographer Everaldo Pereira´s company Nu Tempo will present a performance in London based on the film. “Blood Songs” will be performed by the duo Everaldo Pereira and Dominique Bulgin, and they’ll share the stage with Renato Jimenez, Fernando Mesquita and Kenio.
The performance is part of the 19th Resolution Session, organised by The Place with the best in contemporary dance to the London stage. There'll be 39 performances, from the 3rd January to 23rd February, with Brasil being represented on the 5th Jan.
