Fame in 60 little seconds

What a difference a minute can make in someone's life.

Dj Tisso, originally from Campinas but residing in London since 2004, asked a bouncer for one minute to run into a nightclub and hand deejay Gilles Peterson a copy of his latest Brasilian drum &
bass stormer, and within a week the track was played on BBC Radio 1 and dozens of people were emailing him to get hold of what is, quite frankly, the hottest Brasilian D&B track since DJs Marky & Patife burst onto the scene.

Shortly after that another impromptu encounter with DJ, producer and serious record collector Atila Alexandre de Oliveira resulted in a marathon all-night recording session which lasted until 6am. It was enough for them to realise that they shared a common vision of D&B and they started recording as â€˜Human Factorâ€™. Success was almost immediate with a release on a respected D&B label followed up by the offer of a 3-year contract. However after six months of inactivity on the part of the label they decided to tear up the contract and, rather bravely, go it alone.

Not content with setting up one record label they formed two. Sunrize Recordings is responsible for the Brasilian D&B tracks aimed at a cross-over audience, and the current release features Tita Lima on vocals. According to Tisso there has been a breakdown in communication between Brasilian artists and the UK D&B market. â€˜There are lots of up-andcoming producers who are just not getting a chance to get their music released. With Sunrize we hope to put that right.â€™ So far they have releases lined up by new Brazilian producers David WS and MJazzy.

The second label Dreamsounds Recordings will release soulful, cosmic D&B aimed at the traditional D&B audience. They are already getting great feedback and the legendary producer LTJ Bukem has licensed a track for his forthcoming DVD. With that kind of backing, Human Factor are setting themselves up to be the next big thing in Brasilian D&B. JD
