Hot new Mexico
What could be better than a sweet little Mexican-run cafe bar gallery, warm service, decor and
furniture 'I wish I'd ordered what she's got' dishes, home-made cakes, cocktails, and new blends of Latin American art each month? Two of them of course!
The first Macondo, taking its name from Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s magical-surrealist text 100 Years of Solitude, sprang to Hoxton Square life in 2004, and last month the opening of its sister bar was inaugurated by the Mexican Ambassador, mojitos, spirits and daiquiris raised to hail its fi rst chapter.
With the new and sleeker cafe sitting on Islington’s charming Camden passage, the two venues will divide monthly exhibitions… the perfect escape from the cold to curl up with a coffee, pancake or tortilla.
