From The End to Guanabara - what's good on this week
by Jonny Oakley*
London Dynamite review
Easily 10 steps ahead of everyone else, The End Features some of the most dynamic DJ talent in the capital. Check out one of London’s finest sound systems purring out a tight, dry bass, ideal for anything more tribal and tek. Located in the West End, its only 5 minutes walk from Holborn Tube, just off New Oxford Street. Look for the bright, blue building. Part of the experience includes the long queues to get in.
What’s On PARTY!
The End – drum and bass/dubstep/house/techno club – is celebrating its 13th birthday of house residents MNS2 (considered by many as the one of the UK’s best house nights) with a PARTY on Friday 25 (entry £12 b4 11pm; £15 after) April. Main room and the lounge line up includes Fedde Le Grand; Joey Negro; CJ Mackintosh; Brian Tappert; The Jinks. 22:00-6:00
The Music
The music varies throughout the week depending on who’s djing, anything from soulful house, deep house to killer electro-techno. With Layo and Bushwacka stirring it up, the weekdays are just as good as the weekends.
The Place
A metallic staircase takes you down to this iconic, mid-sized underground club, where the main room consists of 2 arches with the DJ booth right in the middle of the spring-loaded dance floor. The End is also host to its sister venue, The AKA bar (which has an illuminated 15m bar and was the original DJ bar in London), mixing together every Saturday to create the legendary ‘As One.’ Attached to the main lounge is a smaller room, which often outpaces the main room when it everything goes off. London’s most famous after hours party is held here every Sunday morning to 4am.
