Comandatuba Island
Comandatuba Island is the ideal option for those looking to experience Nature with comfort
60 km from Ilhéus, one of the most important centres of cocoa production in Brasil, lies a place where the tourism industry has managed to strike the perfect balance with the area's natural beauty. The Island of Comandatuba offers tourists a mixture of ecological reserves, leisure options, good food and - above all - peace and quiet.
Surrounded by 21 km of tropical beaches, this miniature paradise can be accessed by a short, pleasant ferry journey. Ilhéus airport and Comandatuba airport, Brasil's biggest private airstrip, are both just a short distance from the main port of entry, meaning that tourists from around the world can reach the Island comfortably, securely and conveniently. The Hotel Transamérica Ilha de Comandatuba, which owns the island and the airport, was constructed in the mid-1980s. Its facilities are both simple and elegant, combining European refinement (the hotel has a Spa of renowned French chain L'Occitane) with the region's natural abundance.
You'll come across one hundred year-old coconut trees, extensive tropical gardens and even small reserves of Atlantic Rainforest alongside simple, elegant amenities built using natural material.
Jorge Cerqueira, regional manager of Bahiatursa, the state tourist board, believes that Transamérica is one of the most important hotels not only in Bahia, but in Brasil as a whole. "It's a great entertainment option for wealthy tourists from Brasil and from across the world".
Just a perfect day
An infinite range of Possibilities
Waking up to the sound of the sea and having a traditional Brasilian breakfast. That's probably how you'll start your day at one of the 370 bungalows, suites or apartments dotting the island, all part of Hotel Transamérica.
Afterwards, why not choose between an ecological horse ride through the Atlantic Rainforest, rafting down the Rio Aliança or a five kilometer hike to Barra Norte, returning by schooner. In the afternoon, after lunching on grilled meat and seasonal fruits, why not go jet skiing or kayaking, play a game of golf or drive off in a mini-buggy. Afterwards, you can visit the local spa, which offers hydromassage, cromotherapy, facials and body wraps. Several of the treatments use exclusive ingredients cultivated on the island, such as tropical coconut and mangrove mud.
For dinner, the three local restaurants offer a variety of meats, pasta and sea-food. To finish off the day, just chose a drink and a quiet corner to sip it in, and then go back to your room and relax.
