FULL O'COLOUR ELECTROPOP - Madame Mim fuses divergent music genres with wit
During an interview in a pub, the bassist of British trio the Klaxons jokingly referred to the band's style as new rave. The joke caught on and crossed the Atlantic all the way to Brasil, infl uencing
bands like Bonde do RolĂȘ and Cansei de Ser Sexy, who've gone on to become household
names across the world.
Singer Marina Eva, 28, likes to mix new rave, new wave and punk with Latin American dance music. This fusion has resulted in her new project, Madame Mim. "I play electro-pop", she explains, and referring to her colourful style of dress: "It's a new phase. When I was 16, I only wore black".
It's Madame Mim's second trip to Europe. Last year, they performed at a festival in Berlin alongside other Brasilian bands, landing a contract with an American label. "After the release of the album Electric Kool-Aid everything happened really quickly". Accompanied by drummer Vig, who's helped
with the organic compositions and lived in the UK for the past ten years, she'll be performing in London this month at Guanabara.JD
