DOLORES GETS BUSY WITH NEW PROJECTS AND LONDON SHOW
From his 17th floor riverside apartment DJ Dolores has an incredible view of Recife, the city that has been his adopted home and inspiration since 1984. The view stretches from the Capibaribe river right down to the old Dutch Quarter where sailors and bohemians mixed in itâs hayday. Since arriving from Sergipe he has developed a love/hate relationship with the city, âHere is an ungrateful place. The only solution is to play elsewhere. But I always return â I live here â and the city is inspirational.â
With his recently released 3rd CD One Real (i.e. âone quidâ), Dolores doesnât have much free time. As he points out, apart from touring the new album over the next few months he has lots of other projects on the go: âI just produced a album with the Mestres da Guitarrada, from BelĂ©m in the state of ParĂĄ, At the moment I'm composing with Nana Vasconcelos for the Museu do Homem do Nordeste. He's one of my musical heroes and I invited other friends like Sibo and Arto Lindsay to take part in the project with us.â
"This is the album that Iâve had the most input on. There are only a couple of collaborations and I composed, arranged and produced everything! Just how I wanted."
The album was inspired by the cheap songs that you can buy clandestinely from street-vendors at a very low cost because itâs all informal, without all the astronomical fees associated with marketing. "These vendors are in direct contact with the public and thereâs a close relationship between the
people producing the music and the people buying it. Itâs an intelligent alternative to mainstream cultureâ. His London gig launches the La Linea festival. JD by DJ Cliffy
